telegraph.co.uk - Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi kicked off a scoring spree in the Spanish League over the weekend, with three and four goals respectively.
Ronaldo scored the 20th hat-trick of his career, leading Real Madrid to a 4-0 win against Getafe on Sunday.
He scored three times in an 11-minute span to give him 21 league goals this season.
Ronaldo's first goal of the day was the 300th in his professional club career.
It came in the 62nd minute after a sweeping counter-attack saw Mesut Ozil play the Portuguese star into space on the left for a crisp finish.
Three minutes later he finished off a Gonzalo Higuain cross with a simple header and completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Alberto Lopo had fouled Luka Modric.
He has 21 goals for the season, but is bettered by Lionel Messi who has 33.
Messi also went one further than Ronaldo over the weekend, scoring four goals during Barcalona's 5-1 win over Osasuna.
This puts him on pace to break his own Spanish league record of 50 goals from last season.
Messi's first came in the 11th, when Xavi Hernandez intercepted goalkeeper Andres Fernandez's pass and found the Argentine forward, who brought the keeper to the ground with the subtlest of feints before rolling the ball home.
His first goal extended his scoring streak to his last 16 starts.
Messi's second came courtesy of a penalty after defender Alejandro Arribas received his second booking for blocking Adriano's strike with his arm, leaving his team with 10 men.
Messi slotted the ball just inside the post to secure his second goal
The penalty was Messi's 200th career Spanish league goal, making him the eighth player to reach that mark and the youngest ever by four years at 25 years old.
David Villa participated in Messi's third and fourth goals in the 56th and 58th minutes, first working a one-two combination with Messi for him to score from an angle.
Villa then made a back pass that Adriano sent on to Messi, who tapped in his fourth goal of the night.
After the game Messi said: "We went out there and took care of business like always".
